2017 - MATCH 15 - PHIL READ MEMORIAL TROPHY - 8 OCTOBER

LEVAS Championship Match 15, also for the Phil Read Memorial Trophy, was fished on the Moat Pool at Rycroft on a pleasant Autumn day, with most of the pegs on the lake occupied by another good turn-out. Unfortunately, a booked in angler who failed to attend (and did not let the Match Secretary know) left a blank peg that may have affected results, with the first and third placed anglers having more space than other competitors as a result, especially as four of the top five sat in a line in that area of the lake.

Having said that, the fish still have to be caught and the "in form" Steve Hoult on peg 26 certainly did that to weigh in a magnificent 104-02 of carp, which more than doubled the weights of the second and third placed anglers' weights combined.  Steve fished his favoured banded pellet on pole at 13m to catch steadily throughout the match.

Andy Edwards fished the performance of the match on peg 22 to take second place.  Andy struggled for bites during the first half of the match but persevering with banded pellet fished at 9-11m his swim came alive in the latter stages when he netted several good carp to put a creditable 50-04 on the scales.

Paul Richardson (peg 23) took full advantage of having a blank peg to his left, which he fed with groundbait and maggots.  Having struggled for bites in the early stages, a switch to his margin on long pole baited with worm saw a succession of carp into his net giving him 50-00 for third place.

Rob Pembridge filled fourth place from peg 16 with 44-14, Les Overmass was in fifth from peg 21, with Paul Marriott taking sixth place with 42-12 from peg 4 to move into the Championship lead with five matches to go.
