LEVAS 140th ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Long Eaton Victoria Angling Society held their 140th Annual General Meeting on Monday 20th March 2020 at the NFD&DS&S Club, Tamworth Road, Long Eaton.

There was a reasonable attendance, although these mainly comprised of Officers, Committee and Club Bailiffs. Apologies were received from five members who were unable to attend.

Members present accepted reports from the Treasurer, the General Secretary and the Website & Publicity Officer.

The Annual Accounts were accepted and the Secretary reported that generally 2019 had been a good year.  Although the fishing on Fletchers Pond had been lost, we had secured fishing on the River Trent at Cranfleet, and will add the stretch on the Cranfleet Canal from the Stone Bridge down to the slope, and on the floating pontoon at Cranfleet from 1 October to 14 March (Adult Members Only).

We received funding from the Angling Improvement Fund and hoped to gain further funding for projects during 2020.

The new fish pass at Colwick will be the biggest in Europe once it has been built, may enhance flows at the top end of our water, and add some car parking for members.

On the match side, attendance averaged 22 per match and the matches produced great sport throughout the year, with the Championship going right down to the final match.

The following officers were elected:

President – John Adams

Chairman – Open (President to take the chair)

Treasurer – David Kent

Secretary – David Kent

Match Secretary – David Kent

Match Bookings Secretary – Mick Lager

Membership Secretary – Paul Richardson

Junior Secretary – Remains Open

Auditor – Dave Harris

Head Bailiff – Jim Rudkin

Press/Website Officer – John Adamson

Trustees – John Adams, David Kent, Mick Lager, Jim Rudkin.

The Committee were re-elected, and Bailiffs are still being appointed for 2020 but will be named in the new book.  We are, however, seeking additional bailiffs for Grange Pond, the River Soar at Kegworth, and the Erewash Canal (Long Eaton Lock to Trent Lock).

It was agreed to keep membership subscription the same for 2021/22 as they are for 2020/21, Full Adult £30, Concessionary £20, Juniors (12-17 years) £10, Juniors (under 12) free.

The following rules will apply to Grange Pond from 1 May 2020: From 1 May to 31 October members will be restricted to the use of one rod. Between 1 November and 30 April (inclusively) members will be allowed to use up to 2 rods but strictly in accordance to Grange Pond Rules 3 and 4. (This ratifies the changes introduced by the Committee in September 2019)

Grange Pond Rule 6 is as follows: Use of keepnets: between 1 November and 30 April members will be allowed to use a keepnet to retain silver fish only up to 2 pounds in weight each fish when not fishing a society match.  In Society matches members will retain silver fish and carp in separate nets and each keepnet must be weighed separately.

Keepnets and landing nets must be dry before arrival at the pond and spread out on the bank before fishing commences. The use of all keepnets and landing nets must be strictly in accordance with the Check, Clean, Dry protocols.

The recommendation that all anglers fishing for carp in Grange Pond should possess a 36” landing net and an unhooking mat was not passed as a rule, but should remain a recommendation for anglers fishing with two rods for carp to ensure fish care.
