REPORT

After postponing the first three matches of the 2020 campaign, members of Long Eaton Victoria Angling Society were able to fish their first Championship match of the season (also for the Tom Hopewell Memorial Trophy).

The venue was the large Penninsular Lake at Blake Hall, and on arrival anglers endured drizzle and wind in their faces, which only relented four hours into the match.

John Adamson (peg 53) took top honours with 132-04 (of which 129 lbs was carp). John started the match on method feeder fished at about 35m, and after waiting nearly 40 minutes for his first bite caught steadily for three hours, after which the swim “died”. He switched to pole and paste at 5m to add two bream and another 30 lbs of carp for his winning catch.

On peg 44 Club Champion Steve Hoult caught the bulk of his fish in the latter stages. Steve fished at 13m with banded 8ml pellet at depth, and caught several large carp in the last hour to boost his weight to 106-15 and second place overall.

Andy Buckle (peg 45) filled third place with 93-07 taken on pellet feeder, with Nigel Brailsford’s fourth placed 84-05 coming from peg 59 taking one section, Keith White’s 77-07 from peg 55 in fifth place, and Andy Edwards in sixth and winning the other section with 62-09.

The “Silvers” prize was won by Bill Rutherford with a superb 36-10 of mainly bream from peg 50.
