REPORT
Championship match number 19, fished at Portland Fishery on the Canal Lake, was once again dominated by Matt Gaetto who continued to add to his formidable total of recent successes.
From his first “put in” on peg 20, fishing banded pellet on long pole towards the far bank, he was into carp up to 7 lbs in weight, and after the first fifteen minutes claimed to have close to 25 lbs of fish in his net. He continued to catch at a slightly slower rate until the final hour when a switch to worm in the margin produced three more decent fish to lift his total to 109-07 and a clear win.
With four more results to count before he starts to drop points, Matt must now be the clear favourite in the 2020 Championship race, as he moved into fifth place a mere 46 points from the lead.
Les Smedley gained a few points on the leader to move back into second place by taking second place on the day with 47-15 from peg 23, with Dave Borrington (peg 10) in third with 41-12, Dave Cotterill (peg 27) fourth with 38-14, Malc Munn (peg 29) with 38-08 and Steve Welch (peg 12) with 38-05.
The photos show the top two on the day and the match sheet.
Match 20 is on Sunday 25 October at Birch House Lakes on the Horseshoe Lake – book a place with Dave Kent if you intend to fish.
