REPORT

LEVAS Championship Match Eight, also for the Andy Radford Memorial Trophy, was fished at Hacketts Lake near Nottingham, when fortunately, the forecast heavy rain showers failed to materialise. The bank furthest away from the car park was used, pegs 35 to 55, with the brisk wind blowing down the lake into the high numbered pegs, where several of the top weights were taken.

Steve Hoult continued his blistering pace for the Championship with another win. On peg 54, Steve, fishing straight into the wind, caught the bulk of his fish (carp) on pellet waggler, excepting a couple on pole fished in the margin. He totalled 87-08 for a clear win.

On end peg 55, adjacent to the winner, Paul Richardson caught the bulk of his fish on method feeder, the rest on pellet waggler. Paul lost several fish in a snag which undoubtedly cost him the match, and had to be content with second place with his weight of 83-01.

Steve Wilcock (peg 50) filled the third position with a pellet waggler caught 76-04 of carp, and unfortunately had a rod pulled in when he was taking a drink of water.

At the top end of the match on peg 36, John Adamson had a blank first 90 minutes on method feeder before a switch to pole transformed his match. Fishing paste at 10m he caught bream from 8oz to 2 lb+ and had his first carp about 90 minutes from the end of the match, closely followed by another. A switch to his margin (with paste) produced several more, and his fourth placed weight of 75-06 included over 25 lbs of bream.

Fifth and sixth placed Dave Cotterill (peg 42) with 68-12 and Les Smedley (peg 48) with 62-10, both caught the bulk of their fish on pellet waggler.  Top six photographed.

In the Championship, Steve Hoult is now on 146 points. John Adamson has moved into second place with 99, Paul Marriott has retained third with 97. Rob Pembridge drops from second to fourth place, sharing the position with Paul Richardson who has moved up from sixth. Dave Cotterill now has 93, Les Smedley 83, Ivan Carrier 74, Steve Wilcock 72 and Paul Skinner on 68.

Match 9 is on Sunday 11 August on Lake Two at Robinwood, Match 10 a week later on 18 August on the Kingfisher lake at Beechwood Park.
