REPORT
The John Lewis Memorial Trophy match (also Championship match 4) was fished over two lakes, Thames and Avon, on Makins Fishery Phase Three, on a lovely bright and sunny summers day. Although Thames out-fished Avon, both lakes produced fish and provided reasonable catches for all competitors.
Dave Cotterill on Thames peg 17 made the most of a good draw to put 81-01 of carp to around 7-00 on the scales for a clear win. He caught on pellet fished towards the island and later on worm down the edge.
Steve Wilcock on Thames peg 20 took second place with 75-03. Unable to fish to his left margin because of debris that had blown into the end of the lake, Steve fished long to the island at 13m with banded 6ml pellet, and lost several fish in roots projecting from the trees on the island.
Steve Talbot (Avon peg 1) filled the third place with 74-15, only four ounces behind second place. Steve caught the bulk of his fish on banded pellet.
Paul Richardson’s fourth placed 69-09 was from Thames peg 11, Steve Hoult took fifth overall and second on Avon from peg 24 with 65-12, with Bill Peach completing the top six from Thames 14 with 61-10.
The top five are shown in the photos.
Match 5 will be on the Canals at Rycroft on Sunday 14 July. Book in with Dave Kent to ensure a place.
