LAST BASH TROPHY

Tuesday, 27 November 2018 11:54

LEVAS’S Championship Match 19, the penultimate match of the season and also for the Last Bash Trophy, was fished at Beechwood Park over two similar lakes, Swan 1 and Swan 2, the first two lakes as you enter the complex.

In spite of the cooler weather, both lakes fished quite well and all anglers enjoyed a reasonable day’s sport with each lake providing three of the top six places alternatively.

Although the match was comfortably won by Paul Richardson, the top four contestants for the Championships continued their relentless fight for the crown, all achieving a top six place on the day, which keeps the title open right up to next week’s match, the final one of the 2018 season.

Paul Richardson (peg 14 on Swan 2) was able to fish up against an island, and by feeding and baiting with maggots, caught carp of all sizes steadily throughout the match to put 85-14 on the scales for a clear win.

On the other lake (Swan 1), Steve Hoult (peg 3) found the fish feeding at 13m, and by baiting with corn he caught decent carp for a weight of 67-12 to top his lake and take second overall place.

Rob Pembridge (Swan 2 peg 15), fishing the other end of the island to the winner, managed to get carp feeding on pellet, and although generally his fish were smaller than those caught by Paul, he managed 66-06 for third overall place.

Back on Swan 1 peg 1, John Adamson eventually managed to get fish feeding in his right margin at 11.5m on soft pellet, and a decent run of carp in the last 90 minutes lifted his weight to 59-08 for fourth place.

Les Smedley (Swan 2 peg 17) was fifth with 51-00, Dave Cotterill in sixth from Swan 1 peg 8 with 49-10.

The top four in the race for the Championship remain the same, and although Dave Cotterill has retained the lead there are changes to the order.  Steve Hoult has moved from fourth to second and now lurks a mere 9 points adrift of the leader, and although Rob Pembridge has retained third place, Les Smedley has dropped from second to fourth.

With the top 15 results only to count, the Leader Board is now:

1/. Dave Cotterill 249 (266 total, 17 matches, 17 points deducted)

2/. Steve Hoult 240 (240 total, 15 matches)

3/. Rob Pembridge 235 (254 total, 18 matches, 19 deducted)

4/. Les Smedley 234 (263 total, 19 matches, 29 deducted)

9/. Paul Richardson 163 (163 total, 13 matches)

10/. Mick Lager 155 (157 total, 16 matches, 2 deducted)

The final match, also the LEVAS Annual “Fur & Feather” and for the Fletcher Cup, will be fished on the Moat Lake at Rycroft Fishery next Sunday, 2 December.  You must book a place if you intend to fish.
