REPORT

Members of LEVAS fished for the W Hardy Memorial Trophy on the club’s water at Grange Pond in Long Eaton. The match, also round thirteen of the 2019 LEVAS Championships, was for the most part fished in rain, not the ideal conditions, but there were still some decent weights.

Paul Skinner on peg 22 hooked his first carp within seconds of the start on feeder cast to the island. His second cast immediately produced another bite, but unfortunately, he lost that carp close to his landing net, but then continued to catch fish for the first hour. After then sport slowed slightly but he added a few more on the feeder plus two on pole and worm fished at around 10m in the deep water to put 52-14, which included fish to around 8-00 in weight, on the scales to win.

On the opposite bank on peg 4, Les Smedley decided on the pellet waggler as his main approach alternating with bomb and pellet on the same line. Les caught the odd fish throughout the match to end with seven in total weighing 40-11, which also included fish to around 8-00 in weight, for second place.

John Adamson on peg 21 caught 6 carp and a bream of 3-15, all on method feeder for his third placed 39-15, with Mick Lager (peg 3) taking fourth place with 36-15, ahead of Ivan Carrier on peg 2 with 15-11 and Malc Munn’s 13-08 from peg 27.

It was good to see that several anglers around the lake caught “skimmer bream” in the four to six ounces size range, as well as small roach and perch, demonstrating that these species are breeding and providing future stocks of “silvers”.

The photographs show a very wet winner with his catch plus photos of the next two.

In the race for the Championship Steve Hoult has maintained a good lead on 203 points in spite of missing the match, although John Adamson gained ground and is now on 175. Rob Pembridge and Les Smedley have each gained a place, now with 165 and 164 respectively, Paul Marriott in fifth with 154. Paul Skinner has leaped from tenth to sixth place and now has 135 points, ahead of Paul Richardson (132), Dave Kent (131), Ivan Carrier (129) and Dave Cotterill (123).

The next match is on the Match Pool at the popular Janson’s Fishery on Sunday 6 October, and members wishing to compete should book a place with Dave Kent to ensure a place.
