REPORT

There was another good turnout for the LEVAS Jubilee Shield match fished at Rycroft Fisheries on both Old and New Canal pools, but the excessive rain and cooler weather had taken its toll and after the top five weights, which in themselves were far from spectacular, most competitors struggled for bites throughout the day.

Malc Munn on the day’s end peg on New Canal, peg 17, fished towards vacant peg 18 to catch carp to seven pounds on either two or three maggots. He had to fish tight to the far bank to get bites, but his 39-08 total gave him the win by a mere three ounces.

On the Old Canal on peg 14, Paul Marriott also fished tight over to the far bank to tempt his carp, but used worm on the hook over caster feed to take fish to around seven pounds in weight for his second placed 39-05.

Dave Cotterill, next to Paul on peg 16 also fished tight to the far bank for his fish, carp to around six pounds in weight, catching first on bread and later on worm, to but 32-04 on the scales for third place, a pound and a half above fourth placed Steve Talbot who fished the New Canal peg 5 to catch carp to five pounds in weight on worm fished tight to the far bank.

Les Smedley was fifth from Old Canal peg 18 (end peg and next to Dave Cotterill) with 27-10, with the weight dropping off dramatically then as Alan Welch only required 9-06 to take sixth place from New Canal peg 8.

The top five are shown in the photographs.

In the Championship Steve Hoult has increased his score to 249 points, although Les Smedley and Paul Marriott have both gained and now have 235 and 219, remaining in second and third places. John Adamson “blanked” and remains on 196 in fourth, Malc Munn has gained a place and is now fifth with 188. The top ten “Leader-board” may be viewed on this website under "Match Results 2019".

Match 18 is at Rycroft again, but on the Carp and Donno Lakes, on Sunday 17 November, and will be a joint match with Soldiers and Sailors AC. Members of both clubs need to book in with Dave Kent.
