REPORT

Twenty members of Long Eaton Victoria Angling Society fished this year’s Annual Outing match, which was also for the R S Kirkland Memorial Trophy and Match Seven for this year’s Championship. The match was held at the popular Packington Fishery, with a pre-match breakfast at a local Toby Inn and a three course after-match meal at Stonebridge Golf Course that shares the site with the fishery.

The match was split into two sections on opposite sides of the lake, pegs 1-20 and pegs 41-60, paying an overall winner then the top three in each of the sections.

Fished in continual, and at times heavy rain, the high numbered section completely out-performed the low numbers, and provided four of the top six placed anglers.

Returning to form and taking first place was Paul Marriott with an excellent weight of 96-02. Paul caught on pole and chopped worm to catch decent carp from peg 44.

Nigel Brailsford filled the second spot from peg 49 with 78-12 of decent carp, including a “double”. Nigel started on a feeder, but when this failed to produce much action he switched to dead red maggots fished down the edge and was rewarded with a string of decent carp.

Paul Skinner (peg 46) was third with 66-05, caught mainly on pole and maggot, followed by the top two from the low numbered section, Rob Pembridge with a pellet and maggot caught 58-13 from peg 2, and John Adamson (peg 8) for caught bream to 3-00 as well as crucian carp, F1s and carp to nearly 4-00 in his paste caught catch of 57-10.

Brendan Grebby (peg 54) filled sixth place with 51-03.

The top five are shown in the photographs.

The “Mystery Pairs” (matching anglers from each of the sections drawn at random) was won by Nigel Brailsford and Rob Pembridge.

In the race for the Championship, Rob Pembridge gained points, Paul Marriott and John Adamson have moved up the table at the expense of Paul Richardson and Dave Cotterill. The leaders are: Steve Hoult 126; Rob Pembridge 94; Paul Marriott 83; John Adamson 82; Dave Cotterill 77; Paul Richardson 75; Ivan Carrier 69; Les Smedley 68; Steve Talbot 67 and Paul Skinner 60.

Match 8 is at Hacketts Lakes (Notts) on Sunday 4 August.
