REPORT

LEVAS’s Championship Match Nine was fished on Lake Two at the Robinwood Fishery on a wet and windy day, with eighteen competitors lining the banks of the lake. The top four anglers all came from the “road side” bank, including both end pegs on that bank (18 and 32), with the downwind peg on the “field bank”, peg 15, also making the top six.

Steve Hoult continued his relentless march towards the 2019 Championship with yet another clear win. On peg 22, Steve caught the bulk of his fish from his margins with meat bait, ending the match with a superb weight of 89-13.

On the end peg to Steve’s left, Rob Pembridge also fished a tidy match. Rob also caught the bulk of his fish from the margins, but used paste bait for his 69-02 weight to take second place.

Les Smedley, at the other end of the lake on peg 32, also used mainly paste bait for his 62-06 catch for third place, Malc Munn (peg 12) taking fourth place and including a pole caught carp of 18-10, Paul Marriott (peg 27) taking fifth place with 55-01, meat fished in the margins tempting the bulk of his fish, with a couple on the feeder and one fishing open water on the pole.

Sixth placed John Adamson was on peg 7 on the “field” bank and was only five ounces behind Paul’s weight with 54-12, all of his fish falling to paste fished in the deeper water, Steve Wilcock (peg 15) filling seventh place with his catch of 42-07 taken on meat fished to the lake end margin.

Malc Munn's superb carp of 18-10 was the biggest fish of the day by some margin.

Steve Hoult has increased his lead at the top of the Championship to a massive 52 points after only nine matches, and now has 166 points (out of a maximum 180). Only one point splits the next three, John Adamson on 114, Paul Marriott and Rob Pembridge each with 113. Paul Richardson has 104, and Les Smedley 101 completes the top six.

Match 10 is on Sunday 18th August at Beechwood Park on the Kingfisher Lake. Don’t forget to book in with Dave Kent to reserve a place.
