REPORT

The LEVAS season started on Sunday with the first Championship match on the Donno Pool at Rycroft Fishery, Hemington.  This was also for the Tom Hopewell Memorial Trophy.

The well attended match was held in very nice weather, sunny and very little wind, and reasonable catches were made around the lake.

Steve Hoult (photographed with this winning catch) got his campaign off to a flying start with a very impressive win. Steve drew peg 4, and started fishing pole at 13m on the bottom (11’) for one carp. Next, pellet waggler with 8mm pellets produced 4 more carp, and when that slowed down, he tried pole again with 6mm pellet fished shallow over 4mm pellet feed, catching 9 carp fishing four to five feet deep. All the while he had been feeding a short line with 2mm pellets soaked in krill liquid mixed with dead red maggots, went onto this with 45 minutes to go to add three more carp, lifting his weight to 85-13 for a clear win.

On peg 16, Rob Pembridge caught two carp on pellet waggler and the remainder fishing down the edge with pole and paste for second with 60-06, Ivan Carrier (peg 11) in third place with 38-13, just beating Steve Wilcock, who had 37-08 from peg 18, into fourth place.

Paul Marriott (peg 10) was fifth with 33-13 and Nigel Brailsford (peg 31) sixth with 31-06 taken on sweet corn fished short.
