REPORT

Round Ten of the LEVAS Championships, also for the Jean Adams Memorial Trophy, was fished at the Longford Fisheries on the Carr Wood Pool, the club’s first visit there for a few years.  The less than pleasant weather (gusting wind, drizzle and rain showers) did not deter members and once again there was a good turn-out.  With the exception of the winner, all of the top six placed anglers came from the bank facing the wind, with many on the other bank struggling for bites.

Steve Hoult on peg 13 took full opportunity of the island facing him and by fishing tight up to it with pellets he caught most of his fish (up to around 7-00), adding 4 off his paste line and five smaller fish from the margins for his winning total of 68-03.

Opposite the winner on adjacent pegs, Bill Peach (peg 6) and Steve Warrener battled it out fish for fish.  Bill had fish to around 8-00 on mussel fished down the edge and pellet across for his second placed 47-15, Steve ending with 42-14 for fourth place.

These two were split by third placed Matt Gaetto on peg 3 who fished corn at 14.5m to the island and down his margins for a weight of 46-14 and third place.

Andy Buckle (peg 9) was fifth with 34-05 and Dave Kent in sixth with 26-01.

With 14 matches to go, John Adamson still leads the Championship with 143 points, followed by Mick Lager (138), Keith White (133) and Les Smedley (131).

The next match is on the Kingfisher Pool at Beechwood on Sunday 23 August, when anglers will be competing for the Bill Camm Cup.
