REPORT

After a week that had seen quite a lot of heavy rain and strong winds, thankfully the rain had eased and although anglers had to contend with a gusting North wind it remained dry all day with some welcome sunshine.

The match was fished for the Tappers’ Shield (and was also round 12 of the LEVAS Championship) over both the “Canals” at Rycroft Fishery, and produced a very close match with a mere two ounces splitting the top two.

Coming out on top was Rob Pembridge on Old Canal peg 5 with 87-06.  Rob started on chopped worm which produced a few carp and plenty of silvers, but a switch to pellet transformed his match and a stream of decent carp graced his net to give him his winning total and the trophy.

Second in the match (and default winner of the New Canal) on peg 1 was John Adamson with 87-02.  John had an early bream and a small carp from the “track” on paste before switching to method feeder which produced three carp before a fourth fish “snagged” him in a big sunken branch. He landed the branch but the carp had gone. After a long bite-less session he found fish in the margin at 13m and fishing paste caught steadily to the end, losing another large fish in the brambles on the far bank which severed his pole elastic.

In third place (and default second on the Old Canal) was Matt Gaetto on peg 8.  Matt continued his great run of results by fishing long pole to the far bank throughout the day, and fishing pellet, catching some decent carp for this 80-15 total.

Fourth placed Bill Peach won the New Canal with 75-02 from peg 7, which consisted mainly of carp caught on pellet fishing to the far side, with Mick Lager (Old Canal 11) in fifth with 49-06 and Les Smedley (taking second prize on New Canal) with 45-14 from peg 1.

The photos show four of the top five with part of their catch and an archive shot of Bill Peach, plus a copy of the match sheet.

The Championship leaders are John Adamson 179 points; Les Smedley 164; Mick Lager 160; Keith White 156 and Dave Kent 153.

The next match is on Sunday 6th September at Makins Fishery on Lake Two.  Book in with Dave Kent.
