REPORT

Championship Match 21, which was also for the Jubilee Shield, was held at Rycroft Fishery on the Donno Lake.  The gale force wind and occasional rain shower made for the most unpleasant conditions for many competitors, and the carp appeared to have backed off from the wind with most being caught in the sheltered water, where pegs 1 to 4 and 28 to 31 are sited.  These pegs produced the top five weights on the day, with the rest of the competitors having a real struggle to catch a fish including four dry nets.

Malc Munn (peg 4) fished an excellent match to put 42-10 on the scales for a clear win.  In spite of the wind Malc was able to fish at 7m, and baiting with worm picked off the odd “silver” to catch 5-09 of them then added four good carp in the latter stages to boost his weight by 36-08.

Next to Malc on peg 2, Dave Hilliard also had four good carp for his 34-12 to take second weight.  Dave caught all of his fish on double corn bait fished on the bomb, just enough to push Jonathan Leivers (end peg on the opposite bank on peg 31) into third place with his 31-11, which included 19-09 of “silvers”, once again securing Jonathan the £20 “silvers” prize.

Mick Lager (peg 28) filled fourth place with two carp and some silvers for 17-08, with Les Smedley (peg 1) in fifth with a carp and a couple of bream, taken on feeder, for his 9-08 to win his section, and Andy Buckle (peg 22) in sixth with an all silvers catch of 7-11 to win the other section.

With three matches to go in the race for the Championship, each of the top four managed to improve their positions slightly, so the top six remain unchanged: John Adamson 251 points; Les Smedley 235; Mick Lager 232; Dave Kent 227; Matt Gaetto 220; Dave Cotterill 218.

The remaining matches are at Rycroft (Clover Lake) on 8 November, Robinwood (Lake Two) on 15 November, and finally Beechwood Park (Kingfisher lake) on 29 November which wraps up the 2020 LEVAS matches.
