REPORT

Championship match 20 (also for the Shipstone Cup) was scheduled to be fished at Birch House Lakes, but due to problems with the lakes there it was switched to Beechwood Park’s Kingfisher Lake a few days prior to the event, where, as usual it attracted a very good turnout of members.

Although the water temperature had dropped due to the recent rain, the lake fished extremely well although the expected good areas failed to produce a great deal as many of the fish had moved to pegs that normally struggle to catch.

Jonathan Leivers on peg 23 fished maggot bait at 13 and 14.5m and once he dropped his hook size to an eighteen, caught carp at regular intervals to put 59-02 on the scales to win.

On peg 34 Matt Gaetto expected to struggle for bites, but on his first put it at 13m with expander pellet he immediately hooked a carp.  He had a few more at 13m before the fish backed off and he had to resort to 14.5m to keep fish coming, ending with 14 carp for 57-06 and second place.

Dave Cotterill on peg 15 weighed in 52-00 for third place, closely followed by Bill Peach on peg 38 where he expected to struggled for bites, with 51-05.   Fifth placed Richard Lyon on peg 32 included 14 ounces of “silvers” in his 42-01 total which took the “silvers” prize, Dave Hilliard in sixth with 36-00 from peg 17.

The Championship top ten remain in the same order although Matt Gaetto in fifth is now hot favourite for the title as he is only 27 points off the lead and able to count all his points in the next three matches, while those ahead of him will drop points.

The top 10 "Leader Board can be seen on the results page of this site.

Match 21 is on 1 November at Rycroft Fishery on Donno Lake, when members will be fishing for the Jubilee Shield.
