GRANGE POND LONG EATON

ADDITION OF FLOATING ISLANDS

The committee of the Long Eaton Victoria Angling Society (LEVAS) are always seeking ways to improve Grange Pond, and thanks to the Environment Agency they have been able to take as further step in the right direction.

After inspecting the Lake, officers from the EA recommended the addition of floating islands, which in time would enable fish to shelter from predators such as cormorants, and provide safe areas for them to spawn.  They added that they had three such islands and could provide these, as long as LEVAS sited them in the lake.

The delivery was delayed by the Covid-19 lockdown, but were recently delivered, and on Saturday 17 October volunteer members, organised and led by Paul Wheeldon and advised by Club Secretary David Kent, were able to site the ready planted islands in the lake.

The photos (courtesy Brendan Jones) show the volunteers in action, taking a well-earned break, and the islands in situ.

Many thanks to the Environment Agency and everyone who assisted on the day.
