REPORT

LEVAS’s Twelfth Championship Match of the 2019 series was fished at Makins Fishery on Lake Two. Members also fished for the Centenary Cup and the match was jointly fished by members of Soldiers & Sailors (Sawley) AC.

Unfortunately, the (cold) overnight change to high pressure and lack of wind on the day contributed to poor conditions and subsequently to low weights.

The exception was Match Secretary Dave Kent, who pegged on B15 caught two carp on bomb and pellet for around 14-00 and then added five more from the margins on luncheon meat to lift his weight to 64-09 and a clear win.

Championship leader Steve Hoult drew fancied peg A15 but struggled for bites all day. He also managed to catch two carp on bomb and pellet and added several more in the latter stages from his right margin on corn to total 46-03 and second place.

John Adamson (B8) caught 7 carp and three bream on method feeder fished to the island for 36-08 and third place, Steven Welch taking fourth with 33-05 from peg A20, just “ouncing out” Paul Marriott’s 33-03 from peg B21 in fifth place. Brendan Jones’s 26-15 from peg A18 was sixth.

The top five are photographed with their catches.

With eight matches to go, Steve Hoult has a 46 point lead at the top of the Championship. He is on 203 points, followed by: John Adamson 157; Paul Marriott 154; Rob Pembridge 151; Les Smedley 145. The full top 10 may be found on the website www.levas.co.uk

The next match will be on Grange Pond on Sunday 22 September.
